Wiring

I need to make sure all of the light are working and I want to check out the wiring. I've had a bit of a feeling that some of the owner installed wiring is a bit of a mess.

I bought a battery on Saturday (Nov. 28, 2009) and put it in today, Monday, November 30. The cabin lights work and the stern light works. I couldn't see that the bow light works. I didn't leave the cabin so I couldn't be sure if it wasn't on, or I just couldn't see it. So I have to check that out some more.

Here are some photos I took of the wiring in the space under the cockpit. I figured its easy to study the pictures. To get into the space is a real bear (I did it the other night to do some cleaning). To just poke your head down into the space form the cockpit maybe even worse.
This is the back side of the main power switch. It works ok, but I don't like that the feed back over to the radio & knot meter isn't fused. This was owner installed and shakey, just as I suspected.

This is the wiring for the radios and the knott meter and of course the top of the new battery is visible. I want to at least get this stuff fused. I'm thinking of removing the knot meter and puting a depth meter in its place.

The "radio shack" - an AM/FM radio, the brackets for the marine radio (its in the box, very old, don't know if it works) and the hole where the knot meter came out. The switch panel - what is "sudbury" any way?

I checked the radio while I was out in the boat. It lights up - I suppose it works. Won't know until I can put the mast up in the Spring. I don't have a manual for it. SeaRanger 550. It looks to be as old as the boat.

I e-mailed Ed Ramsey the other day about installing a depth finder. He has an in-hull Uniden model on his boat. He sent me a link to a Web page he has about it. I guess I need to put this on the list. Seems like having a depth finder could help keep the dagger board from going in the mud.
