December 23rd Worked on a rifle range that is the Co. did.
December 24th Left Wklebach for a chateau on the Rhine River some fine
place got my Christmas box wrote with my new Pen.
December 25th Christmas morning ground covered with snow. Capt. Baker
wish the Co. a Merry Christmas. Y. Gave us a little remembrance. Good
man. Christmas dinner: pork chops. Spaghetti and macaroni.

Comments: Here we have mention of the grenade training and automatic rifle training. The first pages in the journal have notes from the hand grenade training and the later pages (87-95) notes from the automatic rifle training. Also note that the handwriting in the journal now changes day by day. The form changes as well as ink to pencil. Now he is keeping a record in this book, day by day. |
